GrandOptical Continues Progress With CyberEYES 9.0
RALEIGH, N.C. (February 1, 2006) – What happens when you entrust your future to new technology, only to have your lifeline cut off? What happens when your customers come to count on the latest in facial measurement and imaging solutions, only to have this new way of buying eyeglasses come to a screeching halt? That’s what did happen to GrandOptical, one of Europe’s leading optical retailers, when Eyeweb ceased operations last year.
GrandOptical had grown from a startup operation in the late 1980’s to become one of Europe’s leading optical retailers by constantly staying on the cutting edge. One of its marketing strengths had been to offer customers precision and consistency. Always at the forefront of in-store technology, the optical chain was one of the first eyewear providers in France to offer facial measurement and imaging solutions. As each new imager came on the market, GrandOptical was there to buy. When Eyeweb debuted its first imager six years ago, the French retailer was one of the pioneer’s first customers and most enthusiastic supporters.
To test the Eyeweb concept GrandOptical installed two imagers in 2001 at a store west of Paris. The test was a success, signaling a rollout the next year at other key locations – 27 GrandOpticals in France and one in its sister operation, Vision Express in the UK. Momentum began to build. By 2003 imagers had been installed in all of the French stores, as well as at selected locations in Belgium and Switzerland. VisionExpress units also began to reflect the new technology, with installations at 32 stores by the end of 2004. The new software and hardware was revolutionizing the way GrandOptical dispensers served its customers, making the PD ruler and pupilometer a thing of the past while enabling a customer to see how a finished pair of eyeglasses looks without having to rely on someone else’s judgment.
Then it happened. September 2005. Overnight Eyeweb was gone, as was support and upgrades. If only someone could step in where Eyeweb had left off?
Fortunately for GrandOptical and hundreds of Eyeweb’s other former clients, that’s exactly what CyberImaging did. With the Eyeweb crisis threatening the businesses of hundreds of eye care professionals, the Raleigh, NC-based software developer offered immediate support and service. CyberImaging, which had become the hair and beauty industry market leader by offering innovative facial imaging solutions for more than a decade, also announced plans for CyberEYES 9.0. The new software not only would have all of the functionality found in Eyeweb 8.0, but new features as well – including email capabilities, imaging enhancements, networking, contact lens simulation and pantoscopic angle.
Thanks to CyberImaging and CyberEYES 9.0, facial measurement and imaging solutions will continue to help ECP’s the world over to serve their patients and customers better.
